GENERAL SUMMARY
BGC Ottawa is hiring a full-time Clinical Youth Outreach Worker for an 18 month contract to support Syrian youth and their families in Ottawa. This role involves connecting individuals with local programs and services, providing short-term counselling to at-risk youth, and helping families navigate available resources.
The worker will also build community connections, identify service gaps, and collaborate with local partners to improve support for youth. This position is part of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services ‘Youth Opportunities Strategy’ – Youth Outreach Worker Program.
Responsibilities:
- Provide short-term counselling and support to high-risk youth (ages 12-25) based on the Stages of Change model.
- Support families in addressing youth needs and refer them to community services.
- Collaborate with professionals within and outside of BGCO.
- Promote community awareness of the program and maintain a strong presence in the community.
- Identify service gaps and opportunities to enhance community support.
- Provide information, referrals, advocacy, and resources for youth.
- Facilitate connections between youth and their communities.
- Work with community agencies, businesses, and government to foster partnerships and programs.
- Understand the needs, goals, and abilities of the youth served.
- Perform administrative tasks, including record-keeping and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, Counseling Psychology, or equivalent, and eligible for certification.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- 2-3 years of experience providing short-term counselling to youth in crisis.
- Fluency in Arabic is required.
- Experience managing case plans for high-risk youth and their families.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by at-risk youth, particularly in unserved communities.
- Familiarity with local programs, mental health services, and support agencies for new Canadians.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and planning skills.
- Knowledge of anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, diversity, and inclusion frameworks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community groups and service providers.
- Computer skills, including database management.
Please note: the following are required for this position:
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Current Police Records check (vulnerable sector).
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Compensation
$54,000 to $56,000 + competitive benefits package
